Develop and optimise machining programs for EDM equipment based on engineering drawings and CAD/CAM models.

Collaborate with design engineers to develop tooling and electrodes for EDM processes, considering factors such as material properties and geometric complexities.

Additional Responsibilities

Process Optimisation: Continuously monitor EDM processes to identify opportunities for optimisation, such as reducing cycle times or improving surface finish.

Quality Assurance: Conduct thorough inspections of machined components using precision measuring instruments to verify dimensional accuracy and surface quality.

Documentation: Maintain detailed records of EDM processes, including machining parameters, tooling specifications, and inspection results.

Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve issues related to EDM operations, such as electrode wear, tooling breakage, or machining errors.

Safety and Compliance: Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards during EDM operations, including proper handling of hazardous materials and equipment.

Training: Provide training and guidance to junior EDM operators on machine operation, programming techniques, and best practices.

Qualifications

Experience: Previous experience in EDM machining required. Experience in the medical device or mould making industry in particular is highly desirable.

Technical skills: Proficiency in operating EDM machines and CAD/CAM software for programming and tool path generation.

Education: Any relevant technical education considered, time-served apprenticeship with recognised qualification and additional EDM specific training courses are beneficial.

Knowledge: Understanding of EDM principles, including wire EDM and sinker EDM processes, as well as knowledge of electrode materials and machining strategies.

Problem-solving skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot machining issues and optimise process parameters.

Attention to detail: Excellent attention to detail and precision in machining operations to achieve tight tolerances and high-quality surface finishes.

Communication skills: Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and convey technical information clearly
